2006/2007 Highlights
2007 Teacher of the
Year-
Ms. Dianne Connelly

Dianne Connelly has worked at
Resurrection Catholic School for seven years, teaching sixth through
seventh grade science and eighth grade algebra classes. The school's
graduates credit Connelly for explaining science to them in a thoughtful, intelligent,
and systematic way. Her enthusiasm for science is apparent.
Not only do students learn science in the lab, they also learn
presentation skills by creating spreadsheets, graphing their data, and
giving PowerPoint presentations. Connelly believes that with good
problem-solving skills and dose of heartfelt love for the earth, her
students will be able to help solve many of the worlds' problems, such as
global warming, pollution, and disease. Prior to Resurrection,
Connelly taught science and math in schools around the world, using her
degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara, the University
of California, Berkeley, and Northern Arizona University.
2007
Athlete of the
Year-
Joel Fukuta
Kudos to Joel Fukuta for being
recognized by San Jose Magazine as an athlete of the year. This
honor is bestowed on students from private and public schools in the Bay
Area. We extend our congratulations to Joel for this wonderful
achievement.
Joel Fukuta, an eighth-grader
at Resurrection Catholic School, had so much energy as a little boy that
he would run around the house nonstop. When he was 5, his mother
decided to sign him up for a soccer team, and that was the start of his
athletic career. Fukuta has been involved with soccer for nine
years, golf for six years, and all of Resurrection's after-school sports
for many years. He has also participated in tae kwon do and kung fu
for five years. Last fall, Fukuta joined the school's flag football
team. Fukuta has been involved in Boy Scouts for several
years. One weekend each month, he hikes 10-14 miles and then camps
overnight. He calls these his 'fitness sessions".
"To be honest, I don't like to walk, but when athletics are involved,
there's a reason to move," he says. Last summer, Fukuta was
chosen to attend a camp in China to train as a guide for the 2008 Summer Olympics
in Beijing. Because he speaks both English and Mandarin, Fukuta will
be quite the asset at the Summer Olympics.

Whiz Kid of the Year-
Sienna LaRocca
San Jose Magazine recognized 49 students
from public and private schools in their June 2007 issue.
These students not only excelled academically, but also athletically,
artistically, or in an altruistic commitment to the community.
Congratulations to Sienna LaRocca, an 8th grader who just graduated from
Resurrection on receiving this recognition.
Sienna LaRocca, an eighth-grader at
Resurrection Catholic School, takes academics very seriously and maintains
a high GPA. She has received first honors since fourth grade and
plans to take advanced classes in high school. Not only does she
succeed in academics, La Rocca also participates in student
government. She has served on student council for two years and is
currently student body vice-president. During her first year on
student council, she served as one of the service commissioners, which
helped her realize that she enjoyed giving back to the community.
She now assists in soup kitchens and visits veterans at Christmas.
Outside of school, La Rocca plays club volleyball as a defense specialist,
libero, and setter. She plans to continue playing volleyball in high
school. For more than 10 years, she has been involved with tae kwon
do and has her second-degree black belt. She is now working on her
third-degree black belt.
Blessed Sacraments:
Congratulations to our 2nd grade class for receiving 1st Holy Communion
on May 5th and to our 8th graders who received their Sacrament of
Confirmation on May 6th with Bishop McGrath presiding over the service.
Annual Appeal is
now taking place!
Notice
all the changes on campus? This is because of the generosity of
our families and our community. Join us again this year as we
embark upon our annual appeal. These funds are used to continually
improve our facilities for the students. This year's focus is our
student restroom renovation project. This project is in its final
stages, but the costs have exceeded our initial budget. So please
consider Resurrection School as a recipient of your charitable dollars!
Jacque Wright - 2006 Educator of
the Year - San Jose Magazine
Congratulations
to Mrs. Jacque Wright, our 3rd grade teacher, who was recognized by San
Jose Magazine as an "Educator of the Year".
Jacque Wright started her Resurrection School
career 17 years ago as the Extended Day and Summer Camp Co-director and
cheerleading coordinator. She
then moved on to teaching second grade, and has spent the last nine
years teaching third grade. No
matter her role, peers say she treats every child equally,
respectfully, and fairly, and encourages her students to problem-solve
and keep the peace. more

Hurricane
Katrina Relief
Our Student Council recently
sent a check for over $3,600 to Resurrection Catholic School in the
Diocese of Biloxi, Mississippi. These funds were a direct result
of the penny challenge held in October for Hurricane Katrina
relief. These funds will be used to install new doors ( which have
been removed) in all of their classrooms. The school
suffered water damage from water levels of 3-5ft high throughout the
school.
Powerschool for parents!
In January,
parents were given access to a new tool to strengthen the parent-teacher
educator role. Powerschool is a software application that the
school has been using the past few years to track attendance and grading
for 5th - 8th grades. The parent portal piece of it opened
on January 17th with a direct link from this website. Parents
now have access to their child's grades and attendance
records.
Happy Birthday to us!!

Resurrection School celebrated its 40th birthday on September 7th, 2005! Our founding pastor, Fr.
Nicholas Farana and the Sisters of St. Joseph Carondelet opened the

Thanksgiving poem
A Thanksgiving poem written
by Hillary M. in 7th grade
Dear God,
I am thankful for this day that we get to share.
And am thankful for people here who come to care.
I thank you for the young and for the old.
I thank you for not letting our food get cold.
Thank you for all the friends who are with us thick and thin.
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful in.
I hope we all have something to be thankful for,
thank you God for now and forever more.
Amen

Remodeled Extended Care room
Our fundraising dollars in
use!! When you get a chance, swing by the newly remodeled Extended
Care room. It's wonderful to see students in the room after school working on arts and crafts, playing in the house center, working
on computers, or playing with the trains. Many thanks to the PTG
and all the school families for raising the money last year to pay for
this remodeling. We also want to recognize Mr. Fernandez (P.E.
teacher )who painted the room this summer, and to Mr. Allen (parent) who
built some cabinetry in the room. It's a much brighter, lighter
and fun place to be.
New P.A. System!
Again, thanks to gifts from
parents via the annual appeal, we were able, with the assistance of Mr.
Allen Dela Cruz (dad) to install a wireless paging system in the
classrooms and Farana Center this summer. This is a wonderful
asset to the school for announcements and in the event of an emergency,
quick notification. Thank you Mr. Dela Cruz and family!
